The natural conditions of the Saco do Mamanguá invite visitors for “outdoor” sports in nature, as the paddling, hiking, swimming and snorkeling.
According to Caiçara (traditional population of Mamanguá) tradition, the most used transport are canoes, kayaks and stand up paddle, which leads us to discover the many beaches, meet the locals communities and local restaurants, and explore the exuberant mangrove forest.
At the Refúgio Mamanguá we offer our guests the free use of fiberglass Canadian canoes. We also have stand up paddle boards and ocean kayaks available for rent (values upon request).
For those who enjoy trekking, there are several options of trails through forests and beaches in the Mamanguá, passing by places of great scenic beauty. The main trekking is a climb up to the Sugar Loaf Peak, with a general view of the region.
The green and calm waters of the Saco do Mamanguá are perfect for swimming. There is nothing better than waking up and going swimming. With each breath you can enjoy the contours of the mountains and the surrounding green of the forest. Upon returning to the Refugio enjoy a freshwater shower and a delicious breakfast. We also invite our guests to enjoy the unique experience of swimming at night (new or crescent moon) during which you may appreciate the bioluminescence of the zooplanctons present in water. With each stroke, a explosion of light leaves an amazing green trail.
At the entrance of the Saco do Mamanguá, where the waters are deeper and the bottom is lined with rocks, we recommend free diving “snorkeling” for the observation of the colorful and diverse marine fauna.
